Speak to our Group
If you have a civic organization or larger group that is interested in having us present a program about our hospital and our work, please submit a request by clicking on Contact Us. These programs are intended for adults and can include a live bird if the setting is appropriate. We do not charge for these programs but have requirements:
1. Our program includes a lively power point slide show that presents information about our organization and the work with do. It gives the audience a behind the scenes look at the fascinating birds we get to work with and the conditions that we treat. We need about an hour for the slide show and time for questions. We can stay longer if there is interest. Our intended audience is adults due to topics such as euthanasia and the graphic nature of wounds and injuries. Children under 10 years old might find some topics unsettling.
2. During the time that we spend with your group, we will have sweatshirts and other items for sale. These items are important ways that we spread the word about our organization and make a small amount of revenue for us.
3. We will ask the audience for donations, which is the only way we pay the expenses of our work. We may pass a donation jar and will expect you to encourage generous giving to help us.
4. We require a minimum audience size of 30 people. We can help to advertise the event but it is the responsibility of the organization inviting us to speak to ensure that attendance is met. Speaking engagements take several volunteers away from the hospital and require travel time and time away from the hospital. The minimum audience size helps make the message we are sharing reach enough people to make this time commitment worthwhile.
5. If we are presenting at a business meeting or you have other discussions or activities to conduct, we request that our presentation is at the beginning of the meeting. We will likely gather our things and leave shortly after our part is done so we can return to the hospital.
6. The meeting space must be large enough to accommodate a movie screen and projector. The room must have some type of shades or ability to darken the room so that the slides can be viewed if the presentation is done during the day. We can provide all of the technology if needed.
7. Some venues are suitable to having a live animal brought with us. We have a Barred Owl that is being trained for presentations. We do not charge for this either, and often there is time after the power point program to present the owl and still field questions from the audience. Requirements include an indoor meeting space and no other birds or domestic animals present. Service dogs might need to be moved to the rear of the room.
